FALL CLASSES 

 
 
 

**ALADDIN JR.  - FALL ENROLLMENT MUSICAL (AGES 7-18) **

Our production class will learn and perform Aladdin Jr. during our fall session!

 

Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 17th to assign parts.  Everyone enrolled in the class will be in the performance.  Once enrolled, more details about auditions will be emailed to you.

 

There will be two casts both performing Aladdin Jr.  In an effort to increase casting fairness and to more evenly distribute ages, we will be assigning students to their cast.    Please let us know at auditions if your child cannot be in a particular cast due to scheduling or transportation issues.  Siblings will be cast together by default.  Parents are responsible for providing costumes for their child with collaboration from DCT staff. 

Performances are Saturday, November 16th, 2014 and tickets will be $10-$12.

Requirement: Must enroll in at least 1 singing, dancing, or acting technique class at DCT to participate in this production.

A beginner level class that focuses on combining dance elements with gymnastics skills. The goal of acro is to strengthen the muscles and have students gain flexibility and balance. All these elements are essential to dance. In this class we will work on backbends, forwards and backwards rolls, handstands, chart wheels, and backbend kickovers leading to a foundation for walkovers, aerials, and more complex tricks later.

ACRO 1 (AGES 6-12)

 
 

ACTING CLASSES - JR and TEEN

 
 
 

Build confidence on stage!  The below classes focus only on acting.  See below for more classes that include singing and dance.

  • Jr. Acting (ages 6-10) - Learn the basic skills of acting such as stage directions and basic theatre terminology through activities and scene work. 

  • Teen Acting (Ages 11-18) - Learn a variety of acting skills through scene work and activities designed to strengthen characterization and stage presence.

ADULT BALLET and ADULT TAP

 

Join the fun!  DCT is offering both Adult Ballet and Tap!  Sign up for one or both.  Skills will be beginning to intermediate level. Ballet students will focus on the beginning elements of ballet with both floor and barre work.  Tap students focus on steps such as heels, toes, flaps and shuffles.  We encourage parents, guardians, and instructors to give it a try!

BALLET CLASSES

 

DCT offers several levels of ballet classes all focusing on building terminology and technique. Classes will consist of a warmup, across the floor combinations, and center work such as learning a dance.  Please email derbychildrenstheatre@gmail.com if you need help choosing the correct level for your student.

  • Little Ballet / Tap Combo (ages 3-5) - Both evening and daytime classes available. Focus on basic steps and moving to the beat of the music in a fun, low stress environment.

  • Ballet 1-2 (ages 6-12) - for beginning to intermediate students

  • Teen Ballet 1-2 (ages 11-18) - designed for those who have already taken 1-2 years of ballet and older beginners by instructor approval.

  • Pre-Pointe- for those more advanced students who are ready to build the strength needed for pointe shoes.  Students must be in Pre-Pointe for at least 1 year before earning their pointe shoes.  Must be taken concurrently with Teen Ballet 1-2

CHEER/DANCE CLASSES

 

These classes focus on skills and technical elements often used by cheer and dance teams.

  • Little Cheer/Pom (ages 3-5)

  • Jr. Cheer/Dance (ages 6-10)

  • Teen Cheer/Dance (ages 11-18)

DCT NOTEABLES SHOWCHOIR (AGES 10-18)

 

This group comes together to perform a variety of fun music from Broadway to Pop to Disney and Holiday tunes!  This class will help students improve their performance skills, ability to sing and move at the same time, as well as use facial and body expression while performing. Students will have the opportunity to sing in a group and may also have solo opportunities.

*This group is sometimes chosen to represent DCT at Community Events!  Past events have included singing the National Anthem for the Windsurge and singing Christmas Carols at a nursing home.

DISNEY SHOWSTOPPERS (AGES 5-9)

 

Students will learn to sing and dance to a variety of Disney songs!  This class builds performance skills in a group setting to fun music. Students will have the opportunity to sing in a group and may also have solo opportunities.

*This group is sometimes chosen to represent DCT at Community Events!

HIP HOP CLASSES

 

This class focuses on developing rhythm and coordination to the beat of hip hop/pop music.   Classes often include a warmup across the floor and center combinations.

  • Little Jazz/ Hip Hop (ages 3-5) - daytime and evening

  • Hip Hop 1-2 (ages 6-12)

HOMESCHOOL CHOIR / HOMESCHOOL MUSIC READING (AGES 11-18)

 

These classes are designed to fill the need for music education for Homeschooling Families.  Consider pairing both for a more in-depth music experience.

  • Homeschool Choir - This class focuses on the fundamentals of choral singing.  Learn proper choral singing techniques from a fully certified, Kodaly trained music teacher.

  • Music Reading - This class will focus on how to read basic music notation as well as sight-singing techniques

IMPROV! (AGES 8-18)

 

Improv is an important skill to have while acting in a musical or play.  This class will include acting games and activities that get you thinking on your feet and "making it up" as you go along!  One of the best parts of improv is that you get to laugh!

JAZZ / LYRICAL CLASSES 

 

DCT offers several levels of jazz and lyrical classes.  Classes often consist of a warmup, across the floor combinations, and center work such as learning a choreographed dance.  Lyrical is a soft style that is often performed to music with lyrics so that the dancers can use expression and movement to tell a story.  Please email derbychildrenstheatre@gmail.com if you need help choosing the correct level for your student.

  • Little Jazz/ Hip Hop (ages 3-5) both daytime and evening classes available

  • Jr. Jazz/Lyrical (ages 6-10)

  • Teen Jazz 1-2 (ages 11-18)

  • Teen Jazz 3-4 (ages 11-18) - for those who have mastered Teen Jazz 1-2

  • Teen Lyrical (ages 11-18)

MUSIC THEATRE DANCE (AGES  11-18)

Students will dance to a variety of music theatre songs and learn dance steps often used in music theatre while improving their performance skills by using expression and movement to tell a story. MT Dance includes a warm up, across the floor, and center combinations. Girls need tan character shoes and boys need black jazz shoes for this class.

MONOLOGUE ACTING (AGES 11-18)  

This class focuses on the individual actor or actress. Students will learn to perform solo pieces such as monologues or soliloquies - performed without other actors or actresses.  Monologues are often used in professional and college auditions.

PRIVATE LESSONS 

Students can enroll in private lessons. This gives them the opportunity to personalize their lessons to work on dancing and/or acting skills. Some students may want to practice for an upcoming audition, learn the basics of a dance style, improve their acting skills, and/or learn the curriculum of a group class in a one-on-one setting. The sky’s the limit! Students set up their own schedule with the instructor. Contact DCT for more information.

TAP CLASSES

Make rhythm with your feet!  Tap is one of the most valued dances in Musical Theatre. Classes will often include a warmup, across the floor combinations, and center work such as learning a choreographed dance. DCT offers a variety of tap levels.  Please email derbychildrenstheatre@gmail.com if you need help choosing the correct level for your student.

  • Teen Tap 3-4 - For those who have mastered Teen Tap 1-2.  Advanced and Music Theatre Tap Styles.

TRIPLE THREAT (AGES 8-18)

This class is perfect for developing musical theatre skills! Students will have the opportunity to sing, dance, and act. This class often learns a scene from a musical that involves memorizing lines, singing, and learning movement to songs.
